General Information

Our database contains thousands of titles and is updated every day. If a journal is ordered which is not yet stored in our database, we conduct a thorough bibliographic search before entering the title into our database.

Orders are processed the day we receive them and will be confirmed upon request. We accept orders sent by e-mail, fax, regular mail or via the internet.

We usually prepay our orders, if possible, in order to accelerate the processing of the order. If we cannot prepay the order for whatever reason, we always ask the publisher to send us an invoice. If the invoice does not arrive within a certain period of time, we automatically and repeatedly ask the publisher to send us an invoice until it arrives.

Electronic Journals

The rapidly increasing number of electronic journals and the numerous, ever-changing pricing structures create an enormous workload for the libraries.
We support our customers at any time with

and provide information on new electronic journals or changes of any kind.
LibriAccess, a free internet service, facilitates the administration of electronic subscriptions.

Handling Charges

Unfortunately, our costs are not always covered by the publishers' or distributors' discounts. Therefore, we are sometimes obliged to apply a small handling charge. The level of these charges is determined by the means of shipment, the type of publication, and by the discount we receive from the publisher or distributor. Single / Back Issue Orders

Please consider the following terms and conditions when placing single / back issue orders:

  • upon request we will check with the publisher whether the requested issue is still available and at the same time we will inform you of the approximate cost
  • a service charge per single issue order will be applied
  • the service charge is determined by the country of origin of the publication:
    delivery from European countries: CHF 25.00
    delivery from overseas CHF 30.00
  • the time of delivery depends on the country of origin:
    delivery from European countries 4 – 10 weeks
    delivery from overseas 10 – 16 weeks
  • we will check receipt of issues, i.e. the issues will be delivered to our headquarters and then forwarded to your address
  • cancellation or return of goods cannot be accepted after we have received your purchase order

Sample Issues

We can supply complimentary sample issues of all journals provided the publisher or distributor offers free sample copies. If free sample copies are not available, we will inform you and quote an approximate subscription price.

Consolidation Service - RAPID-Service

Karger Libri also offers a highly efficient and well proven consolidation service known as RAPID-Service (Regular Accelerated Periodical International Delivery System) which is currently used for thousands of subscriptions for many libraries around the world. The ordered publications are delivered to our headquarters in Basel and are dispatched from there at regular intervals.

–  Advantages of the RAPID-Service

  • Guaranteed delivery of all publications: We guarantee delivery of all issues and volumes of all ordered journals and book series and accept responsibility for any lost shipments from Basel.
  • No claims for the Library: All RAPID-subscriptions are claimed by us with our own Automated Claiming System (ACS). Missing issues are claimed immediately and repeatedly until they are supplied. Please refer to the detailed information on claims.

  • RAPID-Status Report: Status reports including the following information are available at any time:

  • - all titles on order and all issues/volumes dispatched
    - order references
    - details of issues/volumes not yet delivered and claimed.

–  Charges
We impose a supplementary handling charge for this consolidation service, but this is generally outweighed by the advantages and savings.

Cancellations / Automatic Subscription Renewal

If your subscription is not cancelled at least three months prior to the end of the current subscription period, you will be obliged to continue your subscription for another year. Cancellations cannot be accepted thereafter. Your subscription will automatically be renewed for the following subscription period.
Upon request, we will send you a renewal notice as a reminder.
